Dexel, a division of the Lawen Group, is a family owned design-build development firm located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dexel oversees the operations of Dexel Developments Limited and Dexel Architecture, managing all aspects of project development from preliminary design to the final building commissioning and occupancy phase. 

Internship Description: 

Responsible for technical and administrative duties related to multi-unit residential projects providing support to the project team in office and field.  Assists with material estimating, procurement, subcontractor tendering and document management. Works closely with VP of Design and Construction to complete tasks related to project and construction management. Growth opportunity potential for project coordinator and project manager roles. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Task driven based on fluctuating requirements and needs including but are not limited to: 

  • Material research and pricing 

  • Estimating and quantity take offs 

  • Analyzing bids from contractors 

  • Assembling specifications 

  • Reviewing progress on site 

  • Assisting with project close out 

Education / Training: 

  • Engineering or Construction related degree/diploma  

  • Construction Management Technologies Diploma  

  • PMP Designation 

Related Experience: 

  • Estimating and project coordination  

  • On-site Construction  

  • Multi-unit residential (apartment or condos) construction   

Skills / Knowledge: 

  • Excellent computer skills including MS Outlook, MS Project, MS Excel 

  • Familiarity with AutoCad, REVIT or ArchiCAD is considered an asset 

  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and documents 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations
